JOHN’S HIGH SCHOOL NAWATANR

  1. History of the Institution:

St. John’s High School NAWATANR was started by a Belgium Jesuit Priest named VINDEY in the year 1965. There was no high school near by. It was an urgent need of a high school for the local people especially the local tribal.  In 1966 the Jesuit handed over the school to the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel.

The two pioneer brothers were Azarias and James. Both were from Kerala. They followed by Bro. Justin, Bro. Mathurin, and Bro. Gregory Surin. In the beginning Brothers were staying with the fathers. Later on they shifted into the school campus. They were staying in the simple rooms with no facility at all.

The school had only six class rooms. Only the boys were admitted in the school. The classes were held from VII to X. The numbers of students were hardly two to three hundred. Bro. Justin worked hard for aided institution. With the help of late SUSHEEL KR. BAGE who was in the Bihar Ministry got approved in 1967.

Brothers’ residence was built in the time of late Bro. John of the Sacred heart who was the Regional Superior. After the completion of the residence Brothers started staying in it. Bro. Edmond and James Roy contributed a lot to bring up the Institution. They had very hard time in the beginning to manage the Institution. Those days there was no proper road and transportation.

Since the number of students were very few the co-education was started and number of students started increasing day by day.  St. John’s High School Nawatanr is very fortunate to get the maximum help from Government financially to build more class rooms. At present we have got 19 class rooms, Science Lab -2, Computer Lab-1, Audio Visual room-1, Staff room- 4, Hall- 1. The school has ten approved teachers, 16 private teaching staff. Total number of students is 1617 from std. VI to X.

Institution has got one Hostel with 80 inmates. There is DAY-BOARDING hostel building sponsored by the Government. There are 25 girls athletes and 25 boys athletes. All get scholarship Rs. 500/- each per month from the Government. Two coaches are there to train the athletes.

  1. MISSION TODAY:

Brothers of the Nawatanr community are trying their level best to impart the best education to the students. Computer education is made compulsory for all the students. To provide more students in the Institution we have got 16 private teachers to teach. Thus many students get opportunity to get admission in the school. Everyday about 1000 students are fed by Mid-day Meal Scheme. Brothers make all efforts to help the students to get the maximum benefits from the Government’s project such as scholarship from the welfare department, bicycles, uniform clothes etc. Brothers are very much involved in the Parish activities such as parish choir, participating in the parish council.

  1. STARTING OF ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL:

The request was put forward to the Provincial administration and the council permitted to go ahead with the plan.
